Fort Finnllow is currently based in Metro Detroit in Macomb Township.
Kosta, the shortened form of Kostandinos. Since my last name is even more difficult to spell and pronounce, I’ve worked under the monikers of Finnllow, Kosta Design, and Kosta Bold.
Name Pronunciation: Kosta (Kōh-stah), the shortened form of Kostandinos (Kōh-stahn-dee-nos).
Finnllow? I'm most passionate about my two dogs, Finnegan (Brittany) + Willow (Long-Haired Weimaraner) and together they are Finnllow / FINN+LLOW (pronounced Fin-Low). They're a big part of my life… okay, my life revolves around them, so they were the greatest inspiration to create a username that would become my brand name with significant meaning.
I came up with the name out of necessity when I first joined Instagram way back on April 22, 2012! I debated on the spelling between double N’s and double L’s for a few seconds and went with this and then bought the domain. Most people I’ve met online since then know me as “Finnllow” now. The name has really become a big part of my everyday life… it’s crazy!
I'm a native of the best-shaped State — Michigan! I was born and raised in The Motor City and currently live in Macomb Township, about 35-miles northwest downtown Detroit. Growing up in Detroit, I was close enough to Canada to tune in to CBC on Channel 9 and watched Mr. Dressup every day. If you've read this far, yes, this is why my first dog was named Finnegan! Without being exposed to that creativity when I was a kid, this website probably wouldn't exist today. I like to use every opportunity I have to thank and acknowledge Ernie Coombs (Mr. Dressup) for helping foster my interest in art, eventually design, and for finally getting to know the greatest joy which is having a dog. My greatest regret is never getting to meet him while he was still alive.
Above any other title or label, I consider myself an artist first. I started out obsessed with drawing faces when I was a kid and into my teenage years before my background evolved into abstract painting. Over the years, I transitioned into web design, graphic design, and more recently into Bold Brush Script, hand lettering, and illustration. I seek perfection in imperfections, welcome accidents, and side with the bold. My greatest strengths are my ideas and then bringing them to life. Identifying as an artist is hard when you start to realize you have to let some of those dreams die and move on to the things that actually make money and pay the bills.
I’m still willing to take on limited (extremely) client work these days, so it has to pay well (extremely) and be a project where I can utilize my unique aesthetic from concept to completion. (That said, I’m no longer working on or taking on website projects in any capacity.) I thrive when working on campaigns and projects from start to finish where I’m able to conceptualize and strategize.
So, when I'm not posting pictures of Finnegan & Willow to Instagram, there's a good chance I'm letting them outside or back in, or out and in and back out and back in again, poop-smithing the yard, wiping their muddy paws (or in Willow’s case - dookie paws), doing a load of laundry of dog towels... or letting them out and back in again. Somewhere in there I find time to work and list items for sale on eBay, package up sales, hit local auctions, estate sales, and garage sales. I’m always trying to find the next deal and buy the next collection or partial. I also try my hand at home improvements whenever possible, often several times before I get it right or giving up completely and hiring a professional. I enjoy cycling local trails and parks, though honestly, it's been way too long to even mention that here, but I miss it. Most importantly, I want to be the kind of person my dogs think I am.
